Our Help For Heroes Fundraiser

Last week a team of budding young footballers (and some not so young) ran out at Birmingham City Football Club for a charity 11 a side tournament to raise money for the Help For Heroes charity.
We would like to thank all those who have helped us over the past couple of months to raise a significant amount for our chosen charity. It looks like we are well on the way to £1500 and rising !!

A special mention should go out to Marks & Spencer Shirley Branch in Birmingham , Brintons Carpet manufacturers and Lodge Tyre Birmingham for additional support. A mention also to Steve McCarthy for making the event a success and also to all those at Birmingham City Football Club for putting on what was an excellent day for all involved.

We plan to attend the tournament arranged by Birmingham City Football Club again next year and raise even more money for a great cause.

Even though the number of property transactions in Portugal are currently half of what they were ten years ago, Miguel Poisson, head of Era Portugal, claims real estate agents have benefitted from the growth of the market caused by the crisis and have registered considerable growth in profit.

“Things are going very well for us: last year was Era’s best ever since it was launched in Portugal, we had a rise of 30 percent in the number of transactions and of 24 percent in revenue, with a total of €1.5 billion worth of houses sold”, Mr. Poisson revealed.

“Taking into account that “2009 was already the best year ever, 2010 was exceptional in all senses”, he said.

With an average of 12,000 properties sold per year, more than 1,000 a month, Era believes it is “benefitting from new market realities”, and admits that “the crisis panorama was a great opportunity.”

On the other hand, he explained, that with more than 350,000 properties on the market at present, “owners try to sell directly, without a mediator, but they struggle to do so and end up looking for professional help.”

As a result two in every three properties sold in Portugal during 2010 were sold by a professional real estate agent, in comparison to one in three properties sold by agencies in the previous decade.

Difficulties in obtaining loans have also “worked as an opportunity for Era”, Mr Poisson added, as the company has established protocols with banks that allow people to obtain mortgages “who individually would not be able to.”

Era currently has 200 branches and 2,200 full-time employees in Portugal, 602 of whom were recruited last year. It predicts it will be hiring a further 400 people this year, following the opening of another 22 branches.

The company estimates that at present it has “145,000 properties” on its books, “more than all of the other networks in Portugal put together.”

It expects a “two-digit” growth for the rest of the year despite 2011 being an “extremely tough” year for credit.

Overall, the number of properties sold in Portugal last year rose to approximately 150,000, in comparison to the 146,000 sold in 2009.

BA Doubles Capacity on London to Palma Route

British Airways has increased capacity on its popular London City to Palma service by 50 per cent to meet the demand for seats this summer.

With additional frequency and larger aircraft the airline will be providing over 25,000 seats to the Spanish holiday island direct from the Docklands making holidays to Palma de Mallorca more accessible than ever before.

Due to the high early season demand, the three-times-a-week flights will increase to six-days-a-week, excluding Saturdays, in July and August. The Friday and Sunday flights to Palma de Mallorca and Ibiza, on brand new Embraer 190 aircraft, will continue until October 31st, enabling a long weekend or longer breaks. The extension also means flights will operate until the end of the school half-term holidays.

British Airways now operates 39 leisure flights from London City to top sun destinations this summer. The airline has also added more frequency to popular destinations of Nice and Ibiza.

British Airways has also launched new routes to Faro and Malaga in June, all from London City. The four times-a-week flights to Faro start on June 7 and the three times-a-week flights to Malaga start on June 8. Both routes will operate year round.

British Airways flies to 12 destinations from London City airport including Palma de Mallorca, Ibiza, Faro, Barcelona, Nice, Madrid and Malaga. Flights are operated by wholly owned British Airways’ subsidiary BA CityFlyer.

Spain proves to be Brits favourite as two million jet off for Easter

Two million Britons are expected to head overseas this Easter with Spain the number-one holiday destination.

Hundreds of thousands of people are taking advantage of the opportunity to enjoy an 11-day break but only have to book three days off work thanks to the royal wedding weekend following hot on the heels of the Easter bank holidays.

Spain tops the list again and again

The Canary Island and the Costa del Sol are the most popular destinations with bargain hunters heading to Egypt and Tunisia and families jetting off to Florida.

Foreign city breaks are also proving to be popular with the top five choices being Paris, Dublin, Amsterdam, Rome and New York.

The airports are preparing for the busiest period of the year so far, with 600,000 scheduled to leave from Heathrow, 250,000 from Gatwick, 160,000 from Stansted and 105,000 from Luton.

Glasgow, Aberdeen and Edinburgh airports are poised to see 150,000 passengers pass through their terminals, with 125,000 leaving from Manchester and 65,000 from Birmingham.

Eurostar and ferry terminals are also looking forward to a busy two weeks.

Abta chairman John McEwan said: “Easter is the traditional curtain raiser to the summer and the royal wedding bank holiday has given a special boost to bookings. I am delighted to see that so many of our customers are taking advantage of the extra days off either heading overseas or taking a break closer to home.”

Success in Spain ….

The Spain property market is back with a bang if the latest figures from the Spanish National Statistics Institute (INE) are anything to go by. The latest INE data shows that there was a 29.6% increase in the volume of homes in Spain sold in August 2010 compared to the same period in 2009.

Taylor Wimpey in Marbella selling out fast

Demand for Spanish properties had been adversely affected by the slump in the global economy and a general oversupply of homes in Spain. But it appears that there are growing signs that the market is back in vogue with holiday homebuyers.
Spain property developer Taylor Wimpey de Espana says that it is witnessing an increase in demand from clients first hand. The housebuilder has nearly sold all their Spanish homes built over the last two years.

Victor Sague, sales & marketing director of Taylor Wimpey España, says: “The Spanish property market is back in business! Confidence in the halls of Government and the Bank of Spain is being echoed by many British buyers who are aware that the market for prime property has bottomed out. Although there is still a degree of caution in a purchase of such a scale, those who have sat on the fence for the last couple of years are now keen to push ahead with their home buys in order to make the most of the reduced prices.”

Cristiano Ronaldo Adds Another Spanish Deal …..

Former World football player of the year, Cristiano Ronaldo, has added to his luxury property portfolio with the purchase of a new mansion in Madrid for £4.3 million.

The Real Madrid player saved almost £5 million on the Spanish property he has been renting for a year, illustrating that he is a rather shrewd operator off the pitch as well as on it. Ronaldo even managed to persuade the vendor to refund £120,000 in rent.

Ronaldo’s new Spanish home features seven bedrooms, two swimming pools and an acre of grounds.

His neighbours on the private La Finca estate in Pozuelo de Alarcon include Real Madrid team-mate Kaka and coach Jose Mourinho.

The 25-year old Portuguese international, who is fast earning the nickname ‘Ronopoly’, already owns four other lavish properties in Portugal. He previously owned a mansion in Cheshire, England.

The former Manchester United winger hopes to follow in the footsteps of fellow football star, Robbie Fowler, who was at one stage the wealthiest sportsman in Britain, thanks to his passion of investing in property.
